    LG Electronics has unveiled an industry-first allergen-reducing steam washing machine, bringing new, innovative clothing care options to consumers. The LG SteamWasher™ with Allergiene™ cycle reduces allergens, including common triggers such as dust mites and pet dander, on fabrics by more than 95 percent. It is the first washing machine to be certified asthma & allergy friendly™ by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, an independent non-profit foundation dedicated to helping consumers and patients with asthma and allergic diseases.

    With 70 percent of U.S. households affected by asthma or allergies, LG’s allergen-reduction cycle provides a unique consumer benefit to the many American families who need to reduce common household allergens in order to find relief. Not all washing machines and wash cycles can reduce allergens. The LG SteamWasher™ Allergiene™ cycle achieves a temperature above the recommended 131°F by the National Institute of Health to kill dust mites and remove pet dander.
    Allergiene™ is a steam-based cycle on select LG SteamWashers™. It works by distributing a high and even temperature of steam combined with hot water in order to dissolve and eliminate allergens. It was scientifically tested by Allergy Standards, Ltd – a physician-led certification organization – and meets the asthma & allergy friendly™ certification standard according to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. It is the first washing machine to receive this certification.

    LG was the first company to incorporate steam technology into home appliances with its award-winning SteamWasher™ first introduced in 2006. The new SteamWasher™ with Allergiene™ cycle builds on this innovative technology. Steam technology delivers superior cleaning performance, while at the same time, offering greater energy and water efficiency. The steam deeply penetrates the fabrics to remove dirt and stubborn stains and dissolve cleaning agents better, improving total wash performance. This provides a technologically-advanced clothing care option for consumers. The SteamWasher™ with Allergiene™ offers exceptional cleaning power for outstanding performance and includes other features such as:
    • SteamWash™ – feeds hot steam into the top of the wash drum through a spray nozzle to penetrate the fabrics; removes dirt and stubborn stains; and better dissolves cleaning agents without causing excessive wear and tear on garments.
    • SteamFresh™ – the SteamWasher’s™ 20-minute steam-only cycle uses steam to freshen and reduce wrinkles on dry clothes– resulting in less ironing and fewer trips to the dry cleaner.

    The SteamWasher™ with Allergiene™ cycle is available in designer finishes to upgrade any laundry room, including stainless steel, midnight blue, wild cherry red and white. The washer also features a sleek, stylish design, including the following elements:

    • Upfront Intelligent Electronic Control Panel with either an LED Display or upgraded tri-lingual LCD display
    • Ergonomically designed Dial-A-Cycle™ control to allow users to select from one of nine washing cycles.

    With a 4.2 cu. ft. capacity, the stainless steel wash tub is the largest front load washer in the industry – which means fewer loads than average front load washers, and families can easily wash bulky items such as king-size comforters.

    Families will also enjoy the high energy and water efficiency of this unit. With the incorporation of steam in the wash cycle, the SteamWasher™ uses approximately 7 percent less water than without steam, making it one of the most water and energy efficient models available. According to EnergyStar (www.energystar.gov), the SteamWasher™ with Allergiene™ cycle saves up to 282 kWh of energy a year; saves over 7,917 gallons of water a year; and saves up to $64 a year for consumers in comparison to non-EnergyStar washing machines.

    And, unlike other brands, LG’s SteamWasher™ incorporates the LG TrueSteam™ Generator – which uses real steam. The advantage of the LG TrueSteam™ Generator is that it allows large amounts of steam to be directly injected into the wash drum which provides more advanced cleaning performance. With the power of LG’s TrueSteam™ Generator technology, true steam is used to lift out and remove stubborn stains – creating brighter colors and whiter whites.
